Hybridity & Surrogacy
Mark McBride (National University of Singapore)
Hybrid theories of claim-rights attempt to carve out a welcome middle ground between will and interest theories. In this talk, I’ll quickly survey the debate in general, before, with the help of a series of examples, trying to figure out what hybridity should say about surrogate decision making scenarios. I think it turns out that not only are such scenarios interesting in their own right, but they also shed light on how best to formulate hybridity.
The series was created in 2015 by Véronique Munoz-Dardé (UCL) and Hallvard Lillehammer (Birkbeck) in order to discuss work in progress from visiting speakers. This year the series is convened by Elise Woodard (KCL) and Michael Hannon (Nottingham). Talks are normally 45 minutes (no pre-circulation of the paper), followed by discussion. All are welcome.
